Can we rely on anyone?

I noticed a news story yesterday that said health researchers had determined that antioxidant supplements, such as vitamin C and E, don’t provide any health benefits after all. They don’t prolong your life; in fact, the data showed that people who took the food supplements actually shortened their lives.

This sort of flip flopping on what is good for you and what is bad for you is really disillusioning. In my lifetime it seems that the medical experts have changed their minds about whether eggs help you or kill you at least five times. At the dentist my hygienist has been telling me for years to brush my gums more vigorously. Recently I had some gum problems, and the dentist said I was brushing my gums too much.

I would like to find some advice that did not change like the daily weather forecast.

Actually, I have found a source of advice that has proven its reliability to me for more than 30 years, and has been tested and proven by generation after generation for thousands of years. “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away,” said Jesus (in Matthew 24:35).

"All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever." (1 Peter 1:24)

Fads come and go. Celebrities skyrocket and then flame out. Trends fizzle. Today’s hot movies and books are eventually forgotten. But if you want to put your life and time and attention into something that will never pass away, then put your trust in the Word of God found in the Bible. Read it and humbly believe it even when it contradicts what you or this world think. And you will be building your life on something that will not fail you in the end. I am betting my life on it.
